I really enjoyed reading this, and look forward to the coming pages. I can certainly see the influence of Star Wars. I know you mentioned The Searchers, but perhaps there were some other space westerns or space operas that helped your thought process? I loved the movie, The Fifth Element. Not sure why I thought of it while reading this, but I did. Maybe just for the space opera parallel. It’s been a while since I have seen The Fifth Element. I wonder if it hold up against time? Anyway, nice work!

Kyle at the shop LOVES The Fifth Element, but I've never been able to make it all the way through. I make it to just about when the blue opera alien and Chris Tucker show up, and then I fall off. I've tried like 3 times but haven't been able to make it through. Firefly is another I haven't been able to get through. I've seen the movie Serenity , but I was watching the series out of order I guess. It didn't make any sense to me. I catch a lot of flak for that one from some fans who come into the shop. Thanks for reading Megan! I think you'll spot plenty of other influences going forward.

The Fifth Element might be one of those that you had to have watched when it came out. I LOVE the blue opera alien part!!

I couldn’t make it through Firefly either. Back then, if Joss Whedon touched it, I had to check it out, and so I came at it with a bunch of bias in the favor of liking it. To me, that made it even worse, when I didn’t.

I've never been a huge JW fan, but I did have a big Buffy phase my senior year of high school. I've definitely got to watch or rewatch The Fifth Element now.
